Home General Articles FIXED: java.lang.runtimeexception unexpected EOF in OVSD HPSD 4.5
Author:

I have been using OVSD HSPD 4.5 for sometimes now, and one morning I try to start the client and suddenly I am face with an error "java.lang.runtimeexception unexpected EOF". I try to repair the application through the installer hoping that it would work again, but I still get an error. After doing some googling I have found an answer.

Apparently this is a bug and to fix this you may have to delete the user.dat or Views.dat file. Here's how:

1. Go to the location where the OVSD profile is located, usually you can find it here:

"C:\Documents and Settings\%userprofile%\Application Data\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\Service Desk"

2. Delete the user.dat that has the 0KB.

3. Try to start OVSD client now, and if it's still has an error try to delete the Views.dat file.

4. In most cases deleting one of these two files should solve the problem.

If you delete the Views.dat file you may have lost your view in OVSD and you have to generate it again.

Yup, worked just by deleting the user.dat
  • Zorge.R  - path
I recommended use this path, it's universe for any version of Windows OS's

    %appdata%\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\Service Desk
  • Chandramohan
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\service desk 4.5\WW-PRD\data

user.dat is in the above location for the Windows 7 64 Bit OS.

In my case forms.dat was 0 bytes. Renamed and it started up again.

In my case, it was Forms.dat that had 0byte size and that had to be deleted (deletion of user.dat or Views.dat didn't help)
