iPad 2: How To Insert SIM Card

You might just got the new iPad 2 and probably excited. But before you can start using it you will need to insert the SIM card into the device so that it could connect to the internet. Here's how:

Require Tools: SIM eject tool or alternatively you could use paper clip.

1. Place your iPad 2 face down and located the SIM tray on the top right hand corner.

2. Grab hold of the SIM eject tool and carefully push the SIM eject tool into the small round hole until you see the SIM tray is ejected.

3. You can then pull out the SIM tray completely and put the SIM card on it.

4. Once you have got the SIM card on the tray, you can then pop the tray back into the iPad 2.

Like this tip?

Now start up your device and it should recognize the new SIM.

Note: Not all model will have SIM card. Here are few various different model. If you can't find the SIM slot as shown above then your model does not support SIM card.

iPad 2 Model A1395: WiFi-only connectivity
iPad 2 Model A1396: Wi-Fi / GSM / A-GPS
iPad 2 Model A1397: WiFi / CDMA / A-GPS

    Rocker - I would assume you can put sim card into the A1395 model.

    Yes. Get any data card with a sim in it. Then take the sim card out of the iPad, cut them to the size of the one in the iPad, then insert it in. It should then work...

    Sophie - You could use a PIN or a paper clip instead. The eject tool is small that it is easy to get lost. Lucky you could use the paperclip as a replacement. :).

    There're several posts in this thread asking where the SIM slot is located however people keep answering the same. Don't you realize that people is not stupid? if we ask is because the slot can't be easily found in some models. I have also the A1395 and can't find the slot. I've had other Ipads and installed the sim card without problem. But for the A1395 can't find the slot. Can't anybody seriously look at this? not as if we're stupid, but as if it is hidden in such perfect way that it can't be easily found or maybe some models just don't have it?

    Eduardo Brito - I can see your frustration, but the Model A1395 is an iPad 2 WiFi-only connectivity. Hence it will not have a SIM slot because it is not design to use 3G or GSM / A-GPS.

    There are a various model and understandably not all models have SIM slot.
    iPad 2 Model A1395: WiFi-only connectivity
    iPad 2 Model A1396: Wi-Fi / GSM / A-GPS
    iPad 2 Model A1397: WiFi / CDMA / A-GPS

    what software do you want to load? if u r thinking of Microsift Office etc.... U shld buy online from apple stores the limited versions only. An ipad cannot replace a computer.

    And from my experience, BSNL works the BEST in South India. They are the only service providers who come with the micro sim. This SIM Can be purchased only from selected offices. PrePaids are available. Recharge can be done from any BSNL outlets. :D

    you have to reset your ipad2 to factory setting... sorry thats the only way

    Please update your picture & text to indicate that one presses the tool vertically down at 90 degrees to the back of the iPad.

    (I had assumed that it was to be pressed horizontally so that pressing in made it come out that is not the case.)

    You can use a needle or a paper clip. You can go to your nearest post office and grab a paper clip.

    Diana, if the above steps does not help you, then ensure that your model has a SIM card. Some model doesn't have a SIM card slot so you can't insert a SIM card.

    Sally - Micro SIM is the third version, or "third form factor" (3FF) of the SIM standard and holds the same amount of data.
