Here is the procedure to enable or disable the character count of a message on the iPhone 4 device.

By default each message has a maximum of 160 characters, if you message is longer then this your phone will attempt to break up your long message into a multi part messages. For example if you have a message is 350 characters long then you would have a message of part 1/3, 2/3/ and 3/3.

Sending multiple messages would cost you more money. So if you want to limit your text to only one message, you can turn on character count. Here's how:

1. Press the Home key.

2. Now select Settings.

3. Select Messages.

4. Then switch Character Count to On or Off as desire.
