iPhone 4: How to Hard Reset on iPhone

Is your iPhone 4 smartphone becoming unresponsive and won't power on not matter what you do? You can try to perform a hard reset.

Resetting the iPhone can be done in 2 ways, either a soft reset or a hard reset.

1. On your iPhone 4 press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for about ten seconds. After ten seconds you should see the Apple logo showing up.

2. Now try to run you phone again and see if it works.

Some people have jail break their iPhone and find that after a hard reset the still can't get the device back to a working order. If you have jailbreak or installing some Cydia app then try this:

1. Plug in the device to the computer and start iTunes.

2. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake + Home for 10 seconds.

3. Once you see the Apple Logo appears, release the power and continue to hold down the home button for about 5-10 seconds. Look in iTunes and see if your device have shows up.

4. iTunes will notify you that you are now in Recovery mode. Click on OK to continue with the restore process.

5. Next press and hold on the SHIFT button and click on the Restore button. Select the latest IPSW file and the prompt appears.

6. iTunes should now attempt to get your device back to the manufacturer setting.

7. iTunes will later give you an opportunity to restore you content from the PC. Every time when you do a sync, iTunes makes a backup so you can choose the latest backup from the sync.

Once your iPhone is resetted, if you have a backup of your data you can also restore it back to your iPhone. But be aware that all your data store after the backup on your iPhone will be erased if you restored.

    Check and see if your phone isn't set to silent. Also if you set a song or some sort of ring tone as a default ring tone, ensure that song or ring tone isn't deleted and that you still have it. Good luck. :D

    Hi Kev, please give this a try:

    1. Connect your iPhone to your PC and run iTunes.
    2. Reset your iphone by holding home button and lock button for 10 sec.
    3. When you see the Apple logo you should hold home button for about 5-10 sec and you will see your iPhone in iTunes.

    Earlier, today, my iphone 4 battery died. The phone then became very hot and it would not turn on again.

    I have tried a soft reset, a hard reset, plugged the usb cable into the computer where itunes won't even acknowledge it.

    I have tried recharging in the car and in the house but still nothing happens. I am so upset because I have only had it for 2 weeks, and I really rely on my phone for appointments and all sorts.

    I was playing music at the time, and then I paused the song for a short time and then when I returned, it had switched itself off. I thought that maybe I was stuck on on the applications, however, I'm positive that I wasn't running any other apps at the time, only the ipod function.

    I hope someone can give me any answer to this dilemma. I have noticed through many other forums that other people are in the same boat with this problem, but no-one seems to have any answers.

    I have a i-phone 4. I have had it since it came out with Verizon and have had no problems.

    Yesterday I recieved an error message(do not remember what it said) and it said I had to do a hard reset. After doing so, everyting is mostly back to order except for my I tunes. When I try to sync, it says it is completed All songs and movies are even listed on my iphone icon folder. However, when i check my iphone, there is nothing there.

    George Padilha - Try to clear all files on the phone and do a resync with iTunes. Make sure that there are no interruption while you perform a sync.

    Hello

    Not too sure if you can help but any help appreciated please. I carried out the Jailbreak operation on my new iPhone4. It showed the running pineapple and all was well. However I did not like the end results so decided to restore back to its original condition. Now all that happens is that ITunes gets as far as "Restoring iPhone Software" and the phone seems to be working and the "% Completion" bar freezes at 60%'ish and nothing more happens.

    If I then execute a hard reset and select the "iPhone3,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore.ipsw", it goes through the restore routine picking up from previous percentage and then freezes again.

    I don't know what to do, please help

    Just FYI, if you do a hard reset & get "stuck" on either the Apple logo or just a blank screen try doing it again (holding down home/power buttons & do t let go until the Apple cycles up again (past the "slide to turn off", past the blank screen, can take 10-30 seconds). I had a random "dead phone" issue and the Apple Tech/help line advised me to do this 3 times in a row. (Did it w/my iPod touch 4G too as it basically reboots everything).     IKram so how many GB does your iPhone 4 suppose to have? Use iTunes to see how much GB you actually have instead of see it from Windows.

    :angry-red: i did this but when i tried to restore my iphone itunes says error 21 (a 3rd party security package) i know the problem it is the package kerberos and i am unable to restore due to it
    i know why my phone stopped turning on and the reason is i deleted sandboxd and now i can not restore or turn on my phone to delete kerberos
    is there any way to fix this?
