Your iPhone 4 may by defaulted have the dictionary suggested keyword turns on. As you type a list of suggested words popup which you could quickly use. However this can become annoying and stand in the way as you type. If you don't like this feature you could turn it off. Here's how:

1. Go to the General screen.

2. Tap on Keyboard.

3. Then select Off from the Auto-Correction screen.

You can switch it back on at the later stage if you want.
