By default the iPhone 4 has white background with black text. However some people having difficult reading with the format, you could change to invert the screen color.

1. On the Home screen, tap on Settings.

2. Select General.

3. Now select Accessibility.

4. Now tap the White on Black switch.

You should immediately see the changes on your screen.
