You may have a website with Joomla installation, however Joomla by default does not generates any sitemap file, so you will need a third party plugin. You may install XMap together with sh404SEF to improve your website Search Engine Optimization (SEO). With sh404SEF your original website URL will be translated into an easy friendly reading URL. An example of a bad URL would be www.itjungles.com/index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=119&catid=16&id=2&lang=en&view=article. With sh404SEF installation you now would get something like this instead: www.itjungles.com/page-not-found.html. After installing sh404SEF here's how you can install XMap. 1. Download the latest copy of XMap here. 2. Now log into Joomla administration panel with your admin username and password. 3. Click on Extensions > Extension Manager menu. 4. Then click on Browse and select the file you have downloaded in step 1. 5. The click on Upload & Install button. 6. Once the installation is completed, click on Components > Xmap. 7. Then select Extensions tab. 8. Now enable all the plugins by click on the enable icon under the column Enabled.
9. Click on Components > Xmap to go back to the Sitemap Manger. 10. Now click on the New button from the toolbar.
11. Now give your sitemap a Title, and on the right hand side you can select one or more menus to generate the sitemap. Then click on the Options and News Sitemap to configure any desire option.
12. When you are done setting the configuration, click on Save & Close from the toolbar. 13. From the Sitemaps Manager, now you should see a new sitemap has been generated, you can click on the XML Sitemap link to see the details. Also on the URL address bar you could copy the URL to submit it to Google Webmaster.
