While installing SQL Server 2005 i run into an error (MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 (KB954459) -- Configuration failed) that has stopped me from installing SQL Server 2005 client tool. The reason I am getting this error is because the MSXML service has already been installed and SQL Server 2005 failed to continue with the installation when it see MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 already exist.

After some research I have found some steps that you can do to install the Server Server 2005 client tool successfully.

If you are getting an error "MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 (KB954459) -- Configuration failed" then try this steps:

1. Make sure that you have remove MSXML 6 Service Pack 2.
2. To remove the MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 down load the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301).
3. Once you have downloaded the tool run the tool and remove MSXML6 Service Pack 2 (KB954459) [6.20.1099.0] from the list.
4. Try to reinstall the SQL Server 2005 again.
