How to install IIS on Windows 7

If you have an asp.net application and you would like to run it on Windows 7 then the first thing you would need to do is to activate Internet Information Services (IIS). When you first install Windows 7 by default, it is switch off. Some version of Microsoft Windows does not include IIS so make sure the version that you have is packaged with IIS.

To activate WIndows 7 IIS click on the start button and go to the control panel. Then select Programs and click on Turn Windows Features on or off.

In the Windows Features dialog Click on the Internet Information Services tree node to expand the node. Once the node is expanded select the neccessary items. Remember don't just click on the parent node (Internet Information Services) and assume everything is selected. When you have checked the IIS node by default not all items are selected you have may have to manually select other items too if neccessary.

Once on OK once you have made your selection and WIndows 7 will begins to install IIS. This may take a few minutes so be patient.

To test if you have successfully installed IIS type in localhost on your Internet Explorer browser and you will see the default site opens up.
