Learn how you could filter incoming email to automatically goes to a specify folder in Gmail.

Filtering email allows you to better organize your inbox. For example incoming emails from Facebook can goes to the Facebook for and eBay emails can goes to the eBay Folder.

1. Login in the Gmail account with your username and password.

2. Now from the top menu, click on Labels tab.

3. Under the Labels section, click on Create new label button. (This will actually create a folder so that your filter email will goes to this folder.)

4. Next, give your Label a name, you can place this label under a parent label by selecting the checkbox Next label under:. Then click on the Create button.

5. Now click on the Filters tab, and click on the Create a new filter link.

From the filter box, you can filter incoming email by:

  • From - the from email address
  • To - the to address
  • Subject - filter base on the subject line
  • Has the words - filter the whole email to find any matching words.
  • Doesn't have - filter the whole email to find any matching words that is not matched.
  • Has attachment - filter email that has attachment

6. Once you have fill in the filter detail, click on the Create filter with this search >> link.

7. Then on the next popup, select where you would like to filter email to go to. In the is example we select Facebook, as we have created this label/folder in step 4.

From this screen, you could send the email to a different folder or you could forward it, delete it or you could select the other options as shown in the above image.

8. Once you are happy with the settings, click on the Create filter button.

A new filter is now created. You should see it under the Filters tab. You could go back to this filter to edit or delete it at any time.
